Long Term Disability insurance provided at no cost

Benefits-eligible faculty and staff can feel financially prepared for the unexpected with USC’s Long Term Disability insurance program

On July 1, 2023, the university furthered its commitment to investing in faculty and staff by providing Long Term Disability insurance through MetLife to benefits-eligible faculty and staff, including those at Keck Medicine of USC* – at no cost.

Long Term Disability insurance begins after 52 weeks of Short Term Disability and provides partial income replacement if an employee becomes disabled while employed at USC.

Historically, Long Term Disability insurance was available only to faculty and staff enrolled in USC’s Supplemental Short Term Disability program.

Supporting our USC Competes moonshot, University HR renegotiated our offerings, enhancing the benefit for all our faculty and staff and providing savings to USC.

As a result of this change, approximately 11,000 additional eligible faculty and staff – double the number of previously enrolled individuals – now have coverage of up to $15,000 per month in the unanticipated event of a disability.

For more information on what this benefit provides, faculty and staff can visit www.metlife.com/USC.

*USC Verdugo Hills Hospital and Las Vegas Medical Clinic employees will continue to be covered under their own disability insurance programs, as they are today.
