Instilling university-wide cohesiveness and integrating legal requirements with the Licensing and Certifications project
The Licensing and Certification project is implementing a uniform process for collecting, validating, and renewing licenses and certifications that are required for applicable employee positions. Workday’s enhanced functionality streamlines the renewal and submission process for employees, and allows HR team members to track and ensure all requirements remain current and in compliance with job requirements.
In 2023, the process successfully rolled out to the Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy, Department of Public Safety, Department of Fire Safety and Emergency Planning, Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, Keck School of Medicine, Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, Office of the General Counsel, School for Early Childhood Education, and Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work, improving the monitoring of license and certification renewals of more than 800 employees. In 2024, the team led project implementation with all groups under Facilities and Planning Management, the Wrigley Institute, and Transportation.

As of February 2025, more than 3,200 licenses and certifications have been updated, tracking over 2,100 employees.
The project will continue with additional units and departments in 2025. The Licensing and Certification policy can be viewed on the USC Policies website.
